ABOUT AYANNA

I have been an athlete my entire life. Growing up in rural upstate New York, I participated in several sports at a young age but excelled at volleyball and basketball. At the tender age of 16, I decided to try vegetarianism and later veganism. I have even competed in figure competitions as a vegan- making sure to follow the lifestyle even down to supplementation.

I first found yoga in college. As a freshman, I completed a beginner-level course for a semester. Originally not 100% convinced, I continued to have an “on-again/ off-again” relationship with yoga until 2015. In 2015, I enrolled in work exchange at ExtendYoga studio (located in North Bethesda, Maryland), originally to build community and learn more about yoga. This initial curiosity later evolved into a passion for the practice resulting in my graduation from ExtendYoga’s yoga teacher training (YTT) program in January 2018. My passion for yoga centers around introducing the practice to people who wouldn’t traditionally be exposed to yoga. My classes offer a fun yet focused teaching environment with thoughtful themes all sequenced to non-traditional music.

HEALTH & WELLNESS… My background in health, wellness, nutrition, mental health awareness manifested in high school and drove me to study Health Sciences and Health Promotion Management in college and graduate school. As a former certified personal trainer and current health educator, my passion is to encourage people to move their bodies, eat healthily, and live a more intentional life.
